It all depends upon the strength of your jaw. To ensure successful implant placement, your jaw needs to be strong enough to support them. Dr. Nelson can easily determine this using our 3-D imaging. If your jaw doesn’t have enough bone mass, he can perform a grafting procedure.

There are several options for bone graft material: bone taken from your own body, often from the back of your jaw; bone from a bone bank; or synthetic material very similar to bone. No matter which kind of material is used, the result is a stronger jaw. These materials also encourage the growth of new bone.

Not at all! Depending on when you receive a graft, we can place bone material directly into your empty tooth socket or through a small opening in your jaw. We then place a membrane to keep it in place. We numb your mouth with local anesthesia prior to the procedure, so you won’t feel a thing. You will have minimal sensitivity, if any, following your treatment.
