I got into dentistry because I was interested in natural sciences, I was interested in helping people, and I like to use my hands to produce works of art. I found that dentistry combines all of these facets in a very appealing way, especially the technology. We like to always stay up to date in technology and use that to help people however we can. What we really love to do is use our hands to help people. When they come in, they have a problem and we can directly see how our work benefits the lives of those who come in. They come in, they may be unhappy, saddened by the way they look, their smile. We just want to make sure that when they leave, they're happy and there's a smile on their face.
So I went to dental school at the University of Buffalo, State University of New York. And after freezing up there, I came down to warm, sunny Florida, and it's great down here. During my spare time, I like to take a lot of continuing education courses. We focus on technological advances with cone beam CT. That's a 3-D X-ray that we can use to image your jaws, your teeth. It's great for implants. We also focus a lot on laser dentistry. We have a state-of-the-art Fotona laser here, it's called the LightWalker laser. We can use that for a lot of things. You can actually remove cavities painlessly a lot of times, not even needing a shot or an injection for anesthesia. That really benefits people. Also, you can use the laser to calm down teeth, teeth that are sensitive or painful. You can actually eliminate pain or speed up healing.
A lot of the extra continuing education that I take is focused on helping the patients as far as how their smile appears, cosmetic dentistry, implant dentistry, laser dentistry. I'm always looking for a way to further my education in order to better benefit the patients.
